An a nurse practitioner, it is important to help reduce healthcare disparities and ensure that all patients receive the care they need. One strategy to implement can include developing cultural competency to understand and respect the diverse background of patients. This includes understanding their beliefs, values, and customs, and how these factors may influence their health behaviors and attitude towards healthcare. Another strategy includes educating patients about their health and advocating for them such as explaining their conditions, treatment options, and the importance of preventative care in a way they can understand. Advocating for policies that reduce health disparities can increase access to care for underserved populations, such as expanding Medicaid or funding for community health centers. One last strategy as an NP could include working in underserved areas or providing telehealth services to increase access to care for those who may have difficulty getting to a healthcare facility.
