Assignment:

Shade just arrived from Nigeria. She is a student at Niagara College Toronto. Before locating to Canada to study Hospitality and Tourism, she was a front office agent at the Radisson Hotel in Lagos. During the Student Career week, Shade was informed that she could work up to twenty hours a week with her student visa. Due to her experience in the hospitality industry, Shade applied to several hotel positions to no avail. Finally, she got a lucky call from a recruiter hiring for a chain of restaurants across Canada.

During the phone interview, she narrated her work experience and how she fits into the position the recruiter is sourcing for. In conclusion, the recruiter commented that she liked her experience and disposition however, she did not believe that Shade has some transferable skills and Canadian experience. She promised to reach out if anything that fits her competence comes up. Shade was sad and has consulted you as an HR professional to advise her on her predicament, especially the recruiter's action. What would be your advice?
