Question

The article "Recovery Support Specialist Inside the Jail: A Program Description of Treatment Engagement for opioid use disorder" the objective of this article describes the medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and the development and implementation of the MOUD program for patients in Jail. The MOUD program helps patients who are in jail connect and establish care between correctional and community health services. An integrated care framework was created to help initiate treatment as soon as possible once the pt. Enters the jail system. The method used for this research was qualitative. Currently, we are implementing a similar program for OUD treatment at the jail. It is still in the early stages and requires more staffing to be successful. Lots of resources are being used, which include doctors, RNs, LVNs, social workers, and custody staff. We currently are not staffed appropriately and cannot medicate/ treat all the inmate population with suboxone strips. Most of the patients on suboxone strips will be converted to sublocade injections. We have seen a decrease in overdoses since the implementation of the MOUD program.
