A client is recovering from surgery in the post-anesthesia care unit when the nurse notes that his peripheral IV has become dislodged and will need to be restarted. List in order the steps of starting an IV. Remove the needle from the catheter and connect the tubing to the hub Apply a tourniquet proximal to the site and wipe the area with an alcohol pad. secure tne Vtorne Skin Keep the skin taut over the vein and insert the needle and catheter at a 15-20 degree angle into the skin. Remove the tourniquet Slowly advance the catheter while withdrawing the needle from the skin Check the client and locate the most appropriate vein to use.
