COM 201 Oral Communication and Persuasion Assignment - Strayer University, USA
In this assignment, you will record the persuasive speech you outlined last week and submit a self-review.
Instructions -
1. Record your speech. Use the Recording a Video instructions. Refer to your outline or speaking notes to deliver a 3-4 minutes speech. Do not read your notes word for word.
2. After you have recorded your speech, watch the recording and complete the self-review with an eye on improvement and track your progress. Use the Persuasive Speech Self-Review Questionnaire for this portion of the assignment.
Requirements - Your speech will be graded on the following criteria:
1. Introduction. Gain your audience's attention and interest and preview the main points.
2. Research. Cite at least two credible sources and support the main points.
3. Methods of persuasion. Use at least two methods of persuasion.
4. Conclusion. Reinforce your central idea and finish with a strong closing.
5. Organization. Organize ideas with logical structure.
6. Technology use (online), speech clarity, and visual quality. Use technology effectively so that audio and visual quality are clear and consistent.
7. Time requirement. Be sure the speech meets the 3-4 minute time requirement.
8. Delivery. Deliver the speech with strong eye contact, an expressive voice, and good nonverbal communication (including gestures or other physical movements).
9. Overall effectiveness. Be sure your speech is effective by connecting well with the audience and be sure you have achieved its purpose.
10. Submit your recorded speech and self-review.

Self Review Questionnaire -
1. Is a simple, clear visual aid presented with the speech? Is it used effectively? If not, note those problems here.
2. Does the speech introduction gain the attention and interest of listeners? Does it preview the main points of the speech? If not, describe how the introduction could be improved.
3. Does the speech cite at least two credible sources that support the main points? If not, note those problems here.
4. Are one or more methods of persuasion used? Are they used effectively? If not, note those problems here.
5. Does the speech conclusion reinforce the central idea and use a strong closing? If not, describe how the conclusion could be improved.
6. Is the speech well organized? Does it follow a logical structure? If not, how could the speech organization be improved?
7. Does the speech meet the time requirement set by the assignment details? If not, what could have been done differently to meet the time requirement?
8. Is the speech delivered with strong eye contact, an expressive voice, and good nonverbal communication (including gestures or other physical movements)? If so, celebrate it here. If not, describe what changes could be made in future speeches to improve the delivery.
9. How clear and consistent is the speech quality? How clear and consistent is the visual quality of the speech? Note any problems here.
10. Overall, how effective is the speech? Does it connect well with the audience and achieve its purpose? Why or why not?
