With the recommended change implemented the delivery model would look more like functional nursing with different team members assigned different tasks involving the patient. Where the nurse will still be responsible for patient care, a physical therapy team would be responsible for coming in and working with the patient for strength and balance training. The benefit of the functional nursing delivery would be that all members of the team involved with the patient's care could have some part in helping the patient with preventing falls. Whether that be by education, helping them walk around the unit, or just listening to the patient express their feelings during a trying time it is all for the benefit of the patient.
