A five story office building is to be built on a site underlain by moderately uniform soils. Bedrock is at a depth in excess of 200m. The building will be 50m wide and 85m long and the foundation will be founded at a depth of 1m below ground surface. In addition the water table is at a depth of 3 meters. Above the water table the soil mass unit weight is 16kN/m 2 . Below water table the saturated unit weight is 19.5kN/m 2 . The maximum column load is 333,000lbs. Soil allowable bearing pressure is 2000#/sft. Recommend the number and depth of borings. (Make sure you convert units).
