A multinational organization based in Japan, XYZ is expanding its automobile manufacturing business and is setting up a joint venture corporation in a new country by acquiring ABC, a small, local car manufacturer which is currently using obsolete, manual car manufacturing technology. XYZ has joint venture companies in 12 other countries where the CEOs, and the heads of Finance and Manufacturing of these companies report to XYZ's head office. In this joint venture, ABC will be responsible for the functions of Marketing, HR, Supply Chain, IT, and Administrative Services. XYZ is the majority shareholder and will appoint the CEO and the heads of Manufacturing and Finance.

1) Would you recommend a bureaucratic or a matrix organizational structure for the joint venture? Give reasons and advantages. Draw an organization structure for the joint venture.

2) XYX wants to scrap ABC's old plant and replace it with a modern robotic assembly line car manufacturing plant which will involve less manpower and will increase both production and quality. Explain how the joint venture will implement this Change Management by applying Kotter's Eight Step Plan.
