You have a patient that was infected with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) when she was a child. During the first infection, she experienced a mild sore throat and swollen lymph nodes in her neck. When she is exposed to the virus again she did not get sick or have any symptoms of mononucleosis. Why did this happen?
