Alfred Adler is recognized by many as the forerunner of modern psychology.

Adler contended that human beings are motivated by feelings of inferiority and a desire to belong.  Moreover, humans are freedom seeking and strive for a sense of equality in all relationships.  Lastly, individuals develop a lifestyle early in life which is one's characteristic way of living and pursuing long-term goals such as feeling better about one's self (Dreikers, 1989).  Adler theorized that the ultimate goal is overcoming inferiority by achieving positive self-esteem and security.

Considering Adlerian theory, your task is to choose a social or political leader (alive or dead) to examine within that framework theory. You may start by examining how the person obtained his or her high level of superiority striving.  An example is President Franklin Roosevelt whose polio condition could have been responsible for some of his motivation -- his "superiority striving." For the person you choose, address the question of whether this leader is/was acting in the social interest or for personal gain. What factors in early lifestyle may have contributed to the outcome? You are to “research” the person, not repeat a Time or Life article or Wikipedia.

Put the name of the person in your header/subject line of your response (instead of Striving for Superiority) so you don't repeat what others have entered. After your response, be sure to read others and post an aside to at least one other entry.

This assignment of at least 3 well developed, focused paragraphs.
