The IPv4 is an exhaustive list of IPv4 addresses for current Internet users in the world. However, in this scenario you have the liberty to use the entire available unreserved public IPv4 addresses for the Internet users in Australia
Requirements: The major task is to allocate the unreserved public IPv4 addresses to different states in Australia based on the Internet users in those states. The number of Internet users for Australian states are given below:
New South Wales (NSW) 2 Million
Victoria (VIC) 1 Million
Queensland (QLD) 500 Thousand
Western Australia (WA) 500 Thousand
South Australia (SA) 400 Thousand
Tasmania (TAS) 300 Thousand
Northern Territory (NT) 150 Thousand
The task needs to be completed based on the following constraints and assumptions:
o Only unreserved public IPv4 address should be used for allocation.
o Each state should have unique set of addresses - no address or set of addresses can be reassigned for any other state.
o You should use only the classless IPv4 addressing in the assignment.
o The number of allocated addresses for each state should not exceed by 20% of the specified Internet users for that particular state. For instance, the allocated addresses for Tasmania should not exceed 360 Thousand addresses.
o It is allowed to use one or more subnets to achieve the number of required address for a given state.
You need to use routers to make connection among states and also routers and switches between networks.
Each state has its own applications, but some applications require inter-state data transfer. You need to think about wireless access and VPN as well, if needed.
You need to come with design report and send it to your technical manager.
Report:
The report must contain the following sections:
1. Introduction: Critical analysis of networking requirements
2. Local Area Network (LAN): Design and description of Local Area Network for all states which must include:
o Network topology: Discuss the reasons for choosing the particular network topology.
o LAN design connections to the servers, connection to other subnets and also the internet.
o IP addresses: Find all network and host addresses including subnet masks according to the requirements.
3. Hardware: Provide a complete description of all interconnecting devices (switches, routers, hubs and access points) and wiring used to build the network. Provide justification for your choice.
4. Conclusion: Comprehensive summary of the work done and recommendations.
