History is just a jumble of facts unless you make sense out of them through careful analysis, your reasoning powers, and, always, considering events and persons within their time period and place.

a.  What are the important “facts” that might explain why William, Duke of Normandy, decided to conquer Anglo-Saxon England, and discuss how valid these “facts”/reasons were.

b.  How was the battle of Hastings fought by the two sides, and what do the differences between the two sides tell us about their respective societies?

c.  Discuss the effects that the Norman conquest would have on England, and does the author of 1066 believe that the conquest was good for England in the long run?

d.  Why do we still not understand fully why William undertook the conquest of England?  Aren’t the sources clear?
