You are working with a determined manager who asked you to assist them with a strategy to move the department forward. The manager has many great ideas but is having trouble getting the attention of two direct reports. Both managers have ten reports each which represents 25% overall budget.

One manager is perceived as a “loose cannon” due to their enthusiasm and desire to push forward new ideas in an organization that is conservative and bureaucratic by nature. The other is more of a team player who is more people pleasing than self-elevating.

How can you help this manager be more successful, or is your advice that the individual needs to be patient and realize this department lacks political power?
