I have an assignment to develop a close reading essay on a poem of my choice. I am choosing "Dolce Et Decorum Est". I was looking for some help in formulating a question to answer for my thesis to aid in my writing. The assignment states "Your close reading should do three things: briefly summarize the text, locate and describe the text's primary formal element or literary device, and evaluate the relation of the device to the text as a whole. Additionally, your close reading might consider what makes a particular text exceptional or confusing, or whether it defies certain literary conventions or represents their most developed form.
