What do you think of the passage in the reading about 'public police' as a phrase in 1765? Were any of you surprised to find out that, prior to 1829, in the English speaking world, there were no police departments at all, as we know them today (or even police officers)? What might it look like, in your neighborhood or community, to return to a 1700's England version of 'public police' as opposed to Police Departments that we have today? What has probably changed that makes the 1700's London model difficult to directly replicate in 2020?
