Assignment:

Intelligence is a hypothetical construct open to interpretation and highly fluid based on where you view intelligence to be rooted in. How do you define intelligence? What do you find to be features that best support whether someone is intelligent?

People often make assumptions about differences in IQ based on factors such as careers (the assumption that a surgeon would have a higher IQ than a janitor). But what about when we start making assumptions about intelligence based on different groups as discussed in your Biswas-Diener (2020) reading. Discuss the controversy with group difference using an identified group or groups to help explain your ideas.

What did you find interesting or confusing this week when reading about the history of intelligence and personality testing? Share why you found it interesting or confusing.

Choose one psychological test that you learned about this week (e.g., WAIS, WISC, Rorschach, TAT, MMPI, MCMI, etc.)and conduct some research on that particular test. Use new resources that expand beyond our class learning resources. The UMGC Library is a good place to begin your research.

a. Introduce us to the test you have researched.

b. Discuss what you learned about the...

  • pros and cons of the instrument
  • its clinical utility
  • its validity
  • biases
  • value you see in the instrument's application
