Read the primary source in the column on the right on page 73. This writing is from 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. This was a time when the government was paying $4 billion a year in public assistance. The US spends $1.16 trillion annually under the Biden administration and under his build back better plan it will increase public spending far more than it already does. Has President Johnson's war on poverty been lost, achieving nothing more than creating a welfare state with its citizens becoming no more than slaves to the government?
