ASSIGNMENT:

You are an enrolled nurse working in a health care facility and is allocated to care for a client with urinary retention. You must perform the following:

• Verbalise strategies to assist the client to void without invasive procedures
• Insert an IDC under asepsis. Please read the policy Sample policy for IDC insertion and Care
• Provide IDC care for client and perform relevant documentation
• Evaluate the care plan and make necessary changes as scenario changes

Your assessor would provide you with the scenario for this assessment. Analyse information given by the assessor during the procedure and perform tasks as required.

Scenario

Mary Smith is a 54-year-old female who is admitted with inability to pass urine. A registered nurse performed the bladder scan, which showed full bladder. She has a past medical history of an accident 3 years ago, peptic ulcers She had surgery to she lumbar spine 2 weeks ago. She is currently admitted with inability to pass urine. On admission to your unit, she is alert and oriented, has aching pain in the lower abdomen and cannot rest in bed properly. What are your actions?
