Read the characteristics of common religious diets that are part of Australian society in the left-hand column. Identify which religious diet is being described. Characteristics of the religious diet Religious diet The customer will not consume any product or ingredient considered haram including:
• Blood.
• Predatory or carnivorous animals.
• Pork
• Alcohol.
In addition to this all animals consumed must have been slaughtered in accordance with the religious law. The customer will follow the 'kashrut' dietary law which includes:
• No consumption of pork.
• Only consuming fish which has scales and fins
• Not consuming meat and milk products in the same meal.
• Only consuming the forequarter of a meat producing animal such as beef, lamb or goat.
In addition to this all animals consumed must have been slaughtered in accordance with the religious law. The customer will largely follow a lacte kegetarian diet and will not consume products involving animal slaughter, such as red meats, seafood and eggs. The consumption of beef is prohibited as the cow is considered sacred. Dairy products are consumed.
