This reading will review values and ideals that are important to many, if not all, Americans. After reading the article, you will be asked to select one of the concepts or values that you believe are central to maintaining a good society and discuss how that concept or value is derived from or related to concepts in the Declaration of Independence.

The topic for this week's reflection assignment is the Declaration of Independence. Use "So you're an American?" to assist you in connecting values to the Declaration of Independence.

In writing your response, include specific examples and statements from the Declaration of Independence (citing it appropriately: Jefferson, 1776).
