In this discussion forum, you will take the challenge proposed by Senator Murray Sinclair, Chair of Canada's Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

My challenge is for you to read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action and to share one of the calls that has significance for you. Whether you've read them before or not, take the time to read them now and think about how you can affect change in your own life to make this country stronger (Indian Horse, n.d.).

  1. Choose one of the health related actions from your Truth and Reconciliation Commission page and explain it to your classmates.
  2. Discuss a concrete way you can support that call to action and make it happen. Give some example.
  3. This is the topic I choose: Recommendation 24: "We call upon medical and nursing schools in Canada to require all students to take a course dealing with Aboriginal health issues, including the history and legacy of residential schools, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights ofIndigenous Peoples, Treaties and Aboriginal rights, and Indigenous teachings and practices. This will require skills-based training in intercultural competency, conflict resolution, human rights, and anti-racism".
