Question

How does Fritz Lang's movie use music and visual imagery to re-tell earlier medieval narrative material? You should focus on specific scenes from Fritz Lang's movie The Nibelungs that differ from the source texts and operas you have encountered in this course, and explore how Lang and von Harbou's movie is enhanced with the use of accompanying music. How does music and visual imagery transform these movie scenes in ways that the mythical source texts alone cannot capture? Your essay will cite a minimum of three different texts from the Myth side of the course and a minimum of three items from the Music side of the course (can be readings, videos, and/or sound examples, but must go beyond the lecture materials). You should also cite one external article (not a review) from an academic journal using JStor or Academic Search Complete (see the final folder for links to these resources) in addition to the six cited sources from our course.
