- Jim does the right action only so that he will be financially rewarded.

- Bob does the right action simply and solely because it makes him feel good and he enjoys and craves this good feeling.

- Mary does the right action only because she knows that acting in this way will bring her rival into public disgrace.

- Stella does the right action simply and solely because it is her duty, even though she vehemently dislikes doing it and it brings her nothing but agony.

- Wanda does the right action simply and solely because it is her duty, but as it turns out, Wanda also happens to really enjoy doing this and therefore feels good as a result of acting in this way.

Kant says that even though all of them do the morally correct action externally, only Stella and Wanda are morally praiseworthy. Consequences are not up to us and we have no control over them. However, we do control our will and intentions. Moreover, Kant says that reason shows us our duty and our morality is based on our intentions, or good will, to follow that duty.

Drawing on the full range of Kant's ethical system in the assigned readings, respond to the following:

- What is at least one reason to disagree with Kant (either by claiming that Stella or Wanda are not moral or by claiming that one or more of the others are moral as well)?

- Do you agree with Kants's views, and why?
