Unlike the ACT college entrance exam, on the SAT (a different college entrance exam) you are penalized for guessing. Assume there are four options for each question (a, b, c, or d) and therefore the probability of getting a question right by randomly guessing is 1/4 and the probability of not getting it right is 3/4. If each correct answer is awarded 1 point and each incorrect answer is given -1/3 points for the guessing penalty, what is the expected value (in points) if you randomly guess on a problem?
