Assignment:
Overview
The aim of this unit is to offer students an opportunity to demonstrate the skills required for managing and implementing a project. They will undertake independent research and investigation for carrying out and executing a Construction and the Built Environment project which meets appropriate aims and objectives. The project brief has been set based on a theme and topics provided by Pearson. You will be required to explore and examine a relevant and current topical aspect of Ethics in Construction in the context of the Quantity Surveying industry.
Theme
The theme set by Pearson Education is: Ethics. The Topic shall be "Ethics in Construction".
Case Scenario
You have been tasked with undertaking a project to review a recently completed building project (you may select a project you are acquainted with). You are required to look into potential issues pertaining to applicable ethical standards/practices (Quantity Surveying students may use RICS global professional and ethical standards as a reference and the Civil Engineering Students may use the Sri Lanka IESL standards) and develop/propose alternative solutions that could be applicable in the future projects when similar situation arises. In addition, you will be considering the overall project process and advising on project management solutions.
You are asked to prepare a report and a power point presentation.
Your report should;
1) include a brief introduction of the project and state reason for selection
2) describe main components of a project specification
3) describe potential resources, costs and timescales
4) describe a range of appropriate techniques for generating realistic potential solutions
5) explore project management strategies to determine suitability for a given project
6) justify the selection of your preferred solution, making reference to your initial project specification
As part of project process, you are asked to evaluate the relationships that may arise between project feasibility, planning on time and resources Your report shall identify each stage of the project. You shall utilise appropriate forms of referencing (Harvard referencing) and citation within the report. Your report and power point presentation should reflect the final outcomes of your findings, conclusions and make recommendations that would further improve your performance in the future.
