The wheat harvesting season is short. Farmers deliver their truck loads of wheat to a giant central storage bin within a two-week span. Because of this, wheat-filled trucks waiting to unload and return to the fields have been known to back up for a block at the receiving bin. The central bin is owned cooperatively and it is to every farmer's benefit to make the unloading/storage process as efficient as possible. Waiting and unloading cost for truck and driver is $18/per hour. The storage bin is open and operated 16 hours per day, 7 days per week during the harvest season and is capable of unloading 35 trucks per hour according to exponential distribution. Full trucks arrive all day long (during the hours the bin is open) at a rate of about 30 per hour, following a Poisson pattern.
a) Average number of trucks in the unloading system
b) Average time per truck in the system
c) Utilization rate for the bin area
d) Probability taht there are more than three trucks in the system at any given time
e) Total daily cost to the farmers of having their trucks tied up at any given time
f) If they enlarged the bin it would cut unloading costs by 50%. It will cost $9,000 to do so. Would it be worth it?
Describe different methods of establishing correlation between variables and provide an example of each. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each method and where each must be applied.
By using the normal distribution to approximate the desired probability.
What are the two ways of testing a correlation coefficient for significance?
Create a 95% confidence interval for mean cost of repairs. Interpret this interval.
Considering that the probability of event C is .44, of event D is .20, and the probability of their intersection is .088, determine whether C and D are dependent or independent events.
Assume that the population is 0.55. Compute the standard error of the sample proportion for the following sample sizes:
Find the percentage of buyers who said their price range is between $150,000 and $153,300.
Test whether the mean rate is less than 6%. Use P-value approach.
The Starbucks in the Bauer College of Business found that 24% of customers purchase more than one cup of coffee per day from their shop. If 180 customers are randomly selected one day, what is the probability that no less than 25% of them purchase..
On average, the size of the difference between the sample mean and the population mean is predicted by:
Twelve cases of leukemia are reported in people living in a particular census tract over a 5-year period. Is this number of cases abnormal if only 6.7 cases would be expected based on national cancer-incidence rates?
