Question1

Take two indistinguishable metallic tumblers A and B. Insulate one tumbler (Say A) by wrapping chart paper around it. Put tumbler B on the table and pour hot water (at about 70o) in it to fill about two-thirds with it. Utilize measuring cylinder for pouring hot water in B so that you know volume of water in the tumbler. Insert a thermometer in the hot water and hold it vertically. With the help of a watch take reading of thermometer initially (t = 0) and thereafter every 30 seconds. Keep on measurement for 10 minutes.

Record temperature of hot water against time and plot a graph between time and temperature.

Repeat the experiment with tumbler a pouring similar amount of water at the same initial temperature in it.

Evaluate the two cooling curves and draw your conclusions.

Suggest two improvements in the design of the experiment so that you may show the effect of thermal insulation on cooling more intensely.
