Quantitative criteria

From the unaudited financial information for 30 June 2010:

Total liabilities = 4,000,000 (2,000, 000 + 2,000,000)

Total assets = 5,500,000 (1,500,000 + 4,000,000)

Average assets = 5,075,000 ([5,500,000 + 4,650,000]/2)

EBIT = 360,000 (300,000 + 60,000)

Interest coverage (> 5)  360,000/60,000 = 6

Return on Assets (> 7%) 360,000/5,075,000 (Average) = 7.1%

  • Were there any factors that you did not take into account when assessing the original application?
  • Why were those factors significant?
  • Could the non-consideration of those factors have contributed to the loan default?
