This week we are learning about hope, optimism/pessimism, self-efficacy, mindfulness, flow, and savoring, hope theory -- all cognitive concepts that relate to happiness.
These complex ideas can be very difficult concepts to explain and measure.
This is a chance to put thoughts -- including disagreements or questions -- out there -- and learn from trying to put your ideas in writing, and to clarify them as others comment on your ideas and you comment on classmates' thoughts.
There are 2 parts to this Discussion.
Select one (1) of the following topics: self-efficacy, optimism, hope, mindfulness, flow, savoring.
a) In own words, define the term in a sentence or two and give an example and explain how it relates to SWB.
b) Locate one (1) article in a peer-reviewed journal that relates to that topic. Accompany your summary with a reference and link to the peer-reviewed article that explores/explains your selected topic.
c) In own words, provide a brief paragraph summarizing the article, include (# and nature of subjects selected, measurement tools, research methods, and conclusions).
d) Do you have any criticisms or questions about the design or conclusions of the study? If so, what are they? Explain your thinking.
e) Suggest a technique/intervention to strengthen or increase someone´s use of concept you selected to increase his/her/their happiness or subjective well-being in his/her/their life. Explain and support your suggestion.
Part 2:
1) Use the topic you selected in Part 1, or choose another from this work that you find of personal relevance or importance and/or elevate your curiosity or challenge prior perspectives, and/or left you pondering or wishing to learn more. In a brief paragraph or using phrases and brief bullet points, record your thoughts about why each has captured your interest. You could: include brief quotes from course sources or research that inspire or express thoughts important to you, your personal takeaways, reactions, experiences that relate to what you selected, brief notes about how and why you might use them in your personal and/or professional life.
