Because health care is an ever evolving industry, as health care professionals, we just find a healthy balance to learn these new drugs, technologies and regulations without compromising the care we provide to our patients. We can do this and still have sustainable practices by implementing processes that reduce waste and can be cost effective for the organization. Adopting only practices that make the organization more effective with the time we have to treat our patients. The tone we have with patients can be limited at times, so it is important to make the most of the time we have with them. Having practices and new technology in place to do this, will ensure that we are being effective with our time and the resources that we have available to us to treat our patients. Proper training of the staff and implementation that makes sense for the organization can help to reach the goal of being a sustainable organization while implementing new process and technologies. I believe that if an organization devotes appropriate time to adopting new practices that are part of being sustainable, patient can shouldn't suffer.
Student 2. Ulys
To maintain sustainability practices while incurring challenges from new medications, technologies, and regulations is by prioritizing. For example, I went to the dermatologist last week and he prescribed a lotion. I did not know how much it would cost until the pharmacist told me it would cost $54.00 and it was not covered by my insurance. I am sure this is nothing compared to other people who need a life or death medication and their insurance won''''t cover a $20,000.00 drug a pharmaceutical company refuses to accommodate for working class people. With extreme cases like this, it would be appropriate for healthcare and governmental leaders to step up and fight for the most vulnerable seeking a decent patient outcome. They must constantly keep investigating every project and analyze its effectiveness in improving patient outcomes. The Sustainability in Health care by Allocating Resources Effectively (SHARE) program investigates systematically, using evidence to dis-invest on other programs in health care that do not improve patient outcomes. This approach was taken in Australia in order to improve health care services for patients (Harris, et al, 2017).
