Quality improvement challenges include needing more leadership, resources, innovation, organizational alignment, and difficulty measuring quality. "While usually measurable, improving service and care quality is often necessary to protect current business even in the absence of specific metrics. The negative effect of a failure to continuously improve service or medical care can be difficult to project, which in turn makes it more difficult to measure the value of the IT investment in quality improvement" (Wager et al., 2022). IT project proposal challenges include poor communication, unclear expectations, and lack of stakeholder involvement and accountability. "More broadly, improving the overall safety of our evolving healthcare system represents a monumental sociotechnical challenge. We categorized these challenges according to the stage of the health IT lifecycle where they appear: (1) Design and Development, (2) Implementation and Use, and (3) Monitoring, Evaluation, and Optimization" (Sittig et al., 2020). The IT lifecycle helps with these challenges by the adoption of different strategies.
