"A good leader does their best to ensure quality care and safely is delivered to patients. This means taking charge when there is no leader; the population being taken care of is safe. This relates to the case of Josie King, in the team a leader failed to take charge and address the parent's concerns. If other interventions were performed or perhaps a nurse escalated concerns/ patient advocate saw the parent, this story may have been different. However, as a result of this case, many changes in hospital systems everywhere were made to ensure a similar case did not occur. One intervention commonly seen is patient advocates or nurse leaders that round on patients. They address patient concerns and escalate if needed. Additionally training given to nursing students so that patient concerns are taken seriously and/or patient questions are answered before the administration of a medication. Should the patient still have concerns regarding the medication, communication with the provider allows for reduction of errors (Mitchell, 2008).
