Question

Three different types of qualitative research design are phenomenological research, grounded theory, and ethnographic research. These have different structures and aim of study. Ethnography is the research design which studies the culture in the society and behavioral sciences. Ethnography searches the meaning of human behavior from the deeper level in which the researcher studies the shared patterns of behaviors, language, and actions of an intact cultural group in a natural setting over a prolonged period of time (Asenahabi B 2019). The data are collected mainly by interview and observation. The type of study is mainly conducted to study the community of people, their social interaction and lifestyles. The example of ethnography research is the study done by the anthropologist in the certain part of the world by observation and participation. The researcher becomes the part of the society in order to understand the culture, language and its influence on the human beings.

Phenomenology is a qualitative research focuses on the essence of a lived experience, or phenomenon, that can be observed or felt by people of different views (Tomaszewski L. Et al. 2020). The aim of this study is to understand what the participant experienced and how they experienced. The method of data collection are interview, observation and personal diaries. If there is certain incidence or pattern in life, it can be studied through phenomenological study. This study can be done in the form of case study. For example, studying the life experience of parents raising their children with autism.
