Qatar Airways: How to Score a Golden Goal in 2022
Qatar Airways is in for a big opportunity. The country was awarded the honor of hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup after winning a tough competition with many countries, including U.S.A.1 Since the announcement of the win, Qatar Airways management has been working industriously to embrace this historic opportunity.
Hosting the World Cup is a challenging task. Qatar Airways has a major role to play before, during and after the event promoting Qatar as a destination. The impact of hosting the World Cup remains way after the games are over, with the estimate that for every person who attends the World Cup, another 150 people will be influenced by word of mouth from visitors to Qatar. The most pressing task for Qatar Airways is, however, to be ready to carry the millions of passengers who are expected to flood into the country to attend the games. In 2006, more than 2 million people visited Germany to attend the games there. South Africa had more than 3 million visitors arrive to watch the World Cup in 2010.2
The excitement at Qatar Airways cannot be described, especially since soccer is a very popular game in the Arab world. Ipsos, the official research partner of al Jazeera Sports Channels, conducted surveys to measure the viewership of the games in the Middle East and North Africa during the 2010 soccer World Cup. According to Ipsos, 148 million people from 14 countries in the MENA region were watching the final game between Netherlands and Spain on the Al Jazeera Sports Channels on July 11, 2010.
