Strategic planning is the process an organization goes through to define its future and come up with a "roadmap" to guide the organization to that future vision. The purpose of strategic planning is to set goals for a business and to develop a plan so that you are able to achieve them. It creates a single vision that can align company and employee visions.
A dynamic process can be defined as on is constantly changing or progressing. A linear process can be defined as one that progresses or changes straight from one stage to another. While both allow change and progression to occur, the dynamic process allows them to shift back and forth and not just flow up the ladder like in a linear process.
Using a dynamic process, organizations leaders can identify what strategies will drive the organization from its current condition to the desired future state. The SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis is used to provide a foundation for strategy development. This analysis serves two important functions: to gather a snapshot of how the organization is currently interacting with the market in comparison to the internal capabilities and intended strategic direction of the organization, and to identify market opportunities and threats that the organization may want to address in future strategic efforts
