For those of you who are not interested in public sector employment, why is that the case? Is it the fact that as you progress through your career, the compensation and benefits in the public sector are not nearly as lucrative as private sector employment? Alternatively, is it the fact that it still takes too long to make a hiring decision and that too few indeterminate positions are available upon graduation that is making you less receptive to public sector employment? Perhaps your impression is that despite the changes to the public sector because of new public management to allow for greater discretion and autonomy for public servants, it is still too stifling a work environment. In other words, the public sector is still too slow and resistant to change and too rule-bound to allow you to be creative and innovative in your work. Perhaps you are unilingual and view your inability to work in French as a serious impediment to having a successful public sector career (although there would be opportunities to learn French while employed in the public service). It may be that you do not view anything in particular to be problematic about public sector employment, but you perceive private or non-profit sector employment to be more rewarding. Why is that the case.
