A recent survey showed that approximately half of Canadians think it is acceptable, in certain cases, for the government to read private email and monitor other online activities.28 A sample of adults in Ottawa was obtained and asked if they believe it is acceptable for the government to monitor private email. Each response was classified as yes (Y) or no (N). The sequence of responses is given in the following table.
