You will need to reflect on and focus on key elements raised by attending the IPE events reflecting on your biopsychosocial understanding of issues faced by healthcare staff and clients/patients/service users. The word limit is 2500 words, not including references. You may wish to submit this assignment early if you wish to complete it nearer to your placement.
Consultancy Report
When planning your report, consider that you are a trainee health psychologist providing recommendations to a fellow health professional:
• Think about who has consulted you - what are they likely to know: e.g. if it's a renal consultant they are likely to be clear on the stages and pathology of chronic kidney disease. But they are not trained in psychology - that is why they have come to you. So, as part of your initial summary outlining the problem/task presented to you, you should provide some psychological insight.
• It should be clear what the problem is and the relevant psychological concepts and therefore what you would propose to meet this need/problem of the service/individual.
• Your recommendations should remain specific to the client/service and the ‘problem' that they have consulted you about.
• You may also want to consider how you can measure the outcome of your recommendations.
• You are acting as a consultant, therefore your recommendations should be:
o Focussed and evidence-based - whatever you are proposing should have some rationale within the evidence base and this should be clear.
o Remember your audience will not necessarily be aware of the evidence relating to health psychology so it should be clear why you are making this recommendation and its relevance.
o Include references (APA) as an appendix to the report.
• What about the structure?
o There is no set structure for this report, each submission may differ depending on the approach they take the identified problem and the recommendations they make.
o However, it should be more structured and focussed than an essay.
o You may wish to include sub-headings if that helps with the clarity or flow of your report.
o Whatever structure you adopt, it should be well-organised and have a clear, logical flow.
o Remember this is M-level work and there should be sufficient depth for this level of study, so whilst it is more structured than an essay, a bulleted list of recommendations is unlikely to give this depth.
