Scenario and the Task
You need to submit an individual report not exceeding 2000 words. Covering below section 1 and section 2.
Section 1: Essay
Write an essay of 600 words on the use of statistics in psychology. Support the essay with examples.
Section 2: Quantitative Analysis
Based on the given data set present the quantitative analysis after completing the SPSS.
Scenario
Assume that you are working as a trainee counselor in a reputed organization after completing your HND in Psychology. Your superior have noticed the symptoms of depression from some of the employees. Therefore, you are given the responsibility of conducting a study to identify the reasons for depression of a set of employees.
You have selected a sample of 30 employees randomly and data have been collected on several variables. A partial set of the collected data have presented below table 1. The data collection method of each variable is described below.
• Age: Open ended question
• Gender: A binomial question, responses are ‘male' and ‘female'
• Education Level: A MCQ question, responses are ‘below O/L','O/L','A/L', 'Degree' and ‘Post Graduate'
• Job Satisfaction: A 5-point Likert scale question from ‘Strongly Satisfied' to ‘Strongly Dissatisfied'
• Depression Score: This is measured with few questions and summarized as a score out of 5.
Task
1. Entering the set of data into SPSS by defining variables
2. Analyze the data set by using appropriate charts
3. Using appropriate measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion and interpret the result
4. You are interested to see following. Conduct appropriate hypothesis testsat 5% significance level.
a. The relationship in-between the age and the depression level. (Hint: Pearson correlation coefficient)
b. The relationship in-between job satisfaction anddepression level. (Hint: Spearman rank correlationcoefficient).
5. Find the regression line to present the impact of age on depression score and find the forecasted depression level of persons of 30 years old.
6. Check whether depression score is different in different gender groups at 99% confidence level.
7. Derive recommendations to the organization based on above analysis.
