Experimental report

Learning outcome 1: Use sophisticated online search techniques so that you can judge appropriate primary sources to use in your reports; this will allow you to demonstrate a breadth of knowledge and understanding of conceptual and historical issues across the areas of biological and cognitive psychology and a knowledge of the theories, approaches and methods used in these fields to investigate behaviour.

Learning outcome 2: Critically evaluate different perspectives in your writing of an experimental report, related to biological and cognitive psychology organised using the standard template, and engage in data collection, analysis and interpretation.

Design and conduct an experiment to investigatechanges in Central and Autonomic nervous System (ANS, CNS) activity on working memory performance. You will be taught how to record physiological data and take part in the experiment yourself, either as an experimenter or participant.

Adapt interpersonal and communication skills to a range of situations, audiences and degrees of complexity.

Take responsibility for own learning and development using reflection and feedback to analyse own capabilities, appraises alternatives and plans and implements actions.

Critically evaluate a variety of relevant studies and theories on the basis of their validity, implications, ethics, and scientific rigour.

Analyse and report on the findings of data with minimal guidance.

Consider theoretical and real-world implications of the findings, how well they generalise, and study limitations.

An excellent Introduction shows clarity of argument and critical analysis. Rationale is explained very well, and the link between previous and current study is very clearly presented. Hypotheses are clearly stated and supported by the literature. Your Methods must be clear, accurate, and appropriate leaving no gaps about how the study was conducted. An excellent Results section covers all analyses well and succinctly. The discussion summarizes findings very well. It should thoroughly interpret findings, drawing competently on current knowledge in the field and fully considering the limitations.
