Discussion Question.

Some of the most controversial issues in this lesson dealt with what some may view as limits, and others may view as overreach, of the federal government in matters of health care. Do you think that the federal government should play a more active role in ensuring that health care is provided more equally (and potentially affordably) across the provinces and territories? For example, should it expand its role to ensure universal drug coverage or mental health counselling, or mandate provinces to provide extended services, like dental care, in order to receive federal funding? Or do you think that more health care decisions should be made at the provincial level and that the federal government should limit its role to providing funding transfers with few strings attached? What, in your opinion, would be the ideal scenario? Explain your reasons.
