Promoting ethics and diversity in the workplace is one of the hats a Human Resource Manager wears. As a Human Resource Manager, how would you promote and educate employees on ethics and diversity in the workplace? What are some of the challenges you would expect to encounter? How would you overcome these hurdles to ensure the overall goal of the organization is being supported?

Students discussion post: As a Human Resource Manager, there are a few different things I would do to promote and educate our employees on ethics and diversity. One thing that I would do is offer implicit bias training for all of our employees. The implicit bias training will help the employees become aware of all unconscious attitudes towards certain diverse groups. At the beginning of the training, I would have the employees take an implicit association questionnaire. The questionnaire will help provide self-awareness and content for the training. Another thing that I would do is offer support groups for all employees. The support groups will off a safe-place for employees to express concerns and learn from each other. Lastly, I would ensure that our company leads by example and sets expectations for ethics and diversity. One of the best ways to promote and educate employees is to lead by example. One challenge I would expect to encounter through the process is employee resistance to becoming aware or accepting unconscious bias. Another challenge I would expect to encounter is employees being afraid to express their feelings, opinion, or thoughts. I would overcome these hurdles to ensure the overall goal of the organization is being supported by providing a safe and open-minded environment for everyone. If an employee refuses to work on their unconscious and conscious bias, the company will have to decide the next steps for that employee.
