Question

The nurse provides care for an infant client diagnosed with constipation. The client's abdominal x-ray reveals a large amount of stool in the colon. Which steps does the nurse take to give the infant an enema? (Please arrange in order. All options must be used.) Unordered Options Perform hand hygiene and apply gloves. Unclamp the tubing. Administer 200 mL of the enema solution at a rate of no more than 100 mL per minute. Position infant on the abdomen with the knees bent. Insert the tube 1 in (2.5 cm) into the infant's rectum. Gather the supplies, and add the enema solution to the enema bag. With the enema tubing clamped, remove the cap, and apply.
