Niche Tourism - Group Report
Expectations - You will produce a 5-7-page report that provides an overview of your selected tourism niche.
You must answer the following questions:
1. What are the nature, size, and scope of your niche on a global/national scale? (2 to 3 pages).
Supporting research is required and at minimum you need to answer the following:
- How many tourists participate in this activity and related activities?
- How much do tourists spend?
- Where do these tourists come from?
- Where do these tourists go to participate in this activity?
- What are these tourists' motivations, needs and expectations? (you can talk here about travellers' demographics and psychographics)
- Who is investing in this niche? (e.g., government, industry partners, NGO's, etc.)
2. What conditions must be present for your niche to flourish? (2 to 3 pages).
This should be your interpretation of the marketplace and based on your research and course content.
- Think of the entire global macro-environment: political, economic, environmental, social, cultural, technological, etc.
- E.g., weather, equipment, licences, carrying capacity, price, etc.
3. Who is perceived as the industry leader/s in your niche sector? Explain why. (1 page).
This should be your interpretation based on your research, and where you need to provide sufficient evidence to demonstrate your choice.
- In other words, what are the top businesses or industry leading organizations offering this activity? And what makes them successful?
Overall Guidelines -
Title page, table of contents, introduction (e.g., chosen definition of your niche, related micro-niches, etc.), appropriate headings for each section, APA tables and figures, reference page, and appendices (optional).
Title page, table of contents, tables & figures, reference page, and appendices are counted as additional to the 5-7 pages.
Use quotes to provide insight, but interpret the information using YOUR OWN WORDS. Keep quotes to a minimum - use your analysis and interpretation instead.
