Question: "Most sociologists are confident that the family will survive as a social institution" (Sullivan, 2016, p. 81). I agree with that statement based on the functionalist perspective. Sometimes family can be portrayed negatively in music, social media or even through people you know who are in toxic relationships can change a person's view, beliefs, and values about family life (Sullivan, 2015. Pg.81). Family remains important to people because provides a sense of unity within society.

The functionalist perspective believe that family is important in all societies but exists in different and diverse forms. The sense of family is important and provides a sense of security to people of which helps them maintain survival skills in the world of which is taught by a parent, school or any other outside community that helps in their development. They also teach socialization and education
