As a human resource manager of a startup company, it is my duty to recognize most important jobs in the company and find a suitable match whose skills and knowledge matches with the job requirements. In my view, the jobs of receptionist, marketing manager and sales representative will be the most important ones to be filled at this time. Services of these people will help the company to achieve its short-term goals and objectives. Once the business gets expanded, we can focus on recruiting people for other jobs.
Skills, knowledge, abilities needed for above discussed positions:
- Receptionist: A receptionist is a person who represents the company in front of different stakeholder groups. They act a link between the company and the stakeholder groups as they have to convey the messages to and from. In order to perform their duties and responsibilities in effective way, it is important for a receptionist to have:
- A good command over language.
- They should have both speaking and writing skills.
- Along with English, they need to have grip on regional and national language.
- Knowledge on any international language will act as cheery on cake.
- Apart from these qualities like polite, ability to work under pressure situations and being able to deal with large number of people at a time are some extra qualities required for this post.
- Marketing manager: The post of marketing manager needs to fill at the earliest in case of startup companies, as marketing managers helps the companies to create brand recognition in the market. The main duties of a marketing manager are to interact and share the company's plans, new launches and about their products with stakeholder groups and to perform these duties, the following skills are required:
- To attract the stakeholder's attention creativity is very important.
- Marketing managers need to have computer skills to use different software's and carry out digital marketing.
- They should have good analytical skills so that they can analyze the data and come up with marketing plan which can help them to achieve marketing goods.
- A good command over language is also very important to market the products effectively.
- Sales representative: Sales is a function which helps the companies to make revenue and profits, number of sales over a period of time defines the overall growth and development of the company. Sales representative is a person whose main duty is to sell the product to its customers and following are some of the skills a sales representative should possess:
- A sales representative needs to have knowledge about the company and its products first.
- They should have good communicational skills so that they can understand what customers exactly needs.
- They should have convincing power to be able to sell the products.
- Negotiation skills are most important in case of sales representatives.
Since different posts needs different skills and knowledge to perform, it is very important to carry out different hiring process for each post. In case of a receptionist, since educational qualification is not a main criterion, process becomes a bit easy. Company can post an advertisement in new paper, magazine or any social media platform to inform the candidates. Then the next step is to test their grip and command over different languages, the one who is fluent and good vocals will get selected.
In case of marketing manager and sales representative, it is important for the company to first go through different resumes, next the candidates whose skills matches the most with the job description should get selected. Then tests should be conducted to measure their subject knowledge, creativity etc., the last step is asking them to solve case studies and role play to test their communication and managerial skills.
