Provide two examples of imagery used in the poem "Walking Both Sides of an Invisible Border". How is this imagery effective in conveying the poem's message about identity?

Describe the mood of the poem "Waking Up". Identify two lines from the poem that provide evidence of this mood.

An allusion is a reference to a person, place, event or idea from outside of the text. It may be a reference literature, art, history, music or other works. The reference is usually made without explanation, putting the onus on the reader to recognize and build the connection themselves for deeper understanding. In having the reader make the connection, the writer can communicate more information in fewer words.

Imagery is vivid description a writer provides through appeal to one or more of our senses (sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing). Imagery is often used to help the reader clearly visualize parts of a story by creating a strong mental picture.

Mood is the feeling readers get from a story or a poem. The writer can establish mood through elements of the setting and through word choice.
