Problem
Setting the Stage:
Imagine that you are an esteemed developmental psychologist or early childhood educator. First Five has selected you to speak to a large group of expectant parents at a national convention in order to provide them with critical knowledge about parenting. Because time is limited, you will need to focus your speech on what you believe to be the SIX most important topics related to social/emotional development over the period pre-birth to age 8 (The Super Six). Besides speaking at the conference, First Five has asked that you provide these expectant parents with a product of some kind to visually represent these concepts, with the goal of helping them understand and remember the Super Six.
Specifics:
On your own, reflect on the assignments, readings, and course in general may a product representing the six most important topics that parents need to know about children's social and emotional development from pre-birth. The main focus of this assignment is the connection between classic theories of social/emotional development with applied parenting, so your six topics must be supported by foundational theories. You must have one topic for each of the age groups we studied in class: pre-birth to 1 year, 1 to 3 year olds, 3 to 5 year olds, and 6 to 8 year olds. The remaining two topics can apply to any of the four age groups you desire.
Your Super Six project can culminate in a variety of interesting products, such as a brochure, pamphlet, book, video, website, bookmark, refrigerator magnet, or other item-use your imagination! A PPT presentation is not acceptable. Below you can see a few samples of the Super Six: a decorative flower pot with the Super Six described on the back of the paper flowers, and a simple trifold flyer that describes the Super Six.
