Problem

Seamus has worked as a teacher for five years.He isn't "on a contract of indefinite duration" or permanent; instead, he has an annual contract that is extended every year following a few weeks of unemployment every summer. Although Seamus's school claims that only permanent employees are eligible for this role, he still hopes to become vice principle. According to the school, this is the case because they prefer to promote people who have worked for them consistently over people who "keep their options open."

Seamus is furious because he considered himself a vital part of the school community and he was never granted a permanent job.

The Department of Education is responsible for paying the permanent staff.
