Part A -
You are to form a team consisting of four (4) students during class. The topic for the presentation is below.
Participating in group work for assessment items creates both challenges and opportunities for students. Present a response to this statement with reference to academic literature and provide recommendations for all stakeholders in the process of presenting or submitting an assessment item through a collaborative approach to learning.
The oral presentation will be held during class time. This is a formal presentation, with PowerPoint (or other presentation technologies) being used to support your team's presentation.
Outline: To complete this task your team will need to address the following:
1. Clearly define the topic and provide a problem statement for 'group work' in higher education.
2. Include a rationale - why is this topic significant and worthy of discussion?
3. Discuss the reasons for the inclusion of such assessment items from a teaching and learning perspective. What does the research say about this issue?
4. Consider the challenges for students in participating in this kind of assessment task.
5. Consider the opportunities for learning that come from participation in group work.
6. Consider the process of successful group participation that overcomes the challenges identified above. How should groups be designated and what considerations should group members make to ensure collaboration in completing a group assessment task is ensured? What recommendations do you have for both teachers and learners when undertaking this kind of assessment task.
Part B -
You should respond to at least one other team's presentation by asking appropriate and critical questions on their presentation. You may be allocated the team to whom you should respond. The discussion should not exceed 10 minutes.

- be able to develop speaking and listening communication skills.
- be able to apply their communication skills to debate differing points of view using verbal and non-verbal communication methods.

This assessment task is provided to help you build self-esteem and self-confidence, in preparation for workplace presentation situations.
